Dialogue Text
Learn to play the second verse of Sultani Yakah Longa or Riyad’s Longa on the Oud. Mr. Tareq adds different ornaments to the note as well. Tareq: Now look at the second verse we have here, I included ornamentation in it written by hand. It was primarily Sol one strike, then La one strike, Ta Tifi Tati, Tati, Es Tifi Ta Fa Tifi Ta, Es *Play* I will play it once *Play* like this, okay If I were to play a bit of ornamentation, why am I including ornamentation and adding written ones in this phase? It is so that you will deduce the ornamentation and the methods of playing in oriental music. Instead of this Ta which is Sol, I played its treble and bass which is now Tati or Sol Sol La La *Play* like this. Okay, in order to save your time, I prepared an exercise which you will find on the second sheet, it is titles Verse no.2, Exercise no.1, I included each note’s treble with its base. This is a very good exercise, and we practiced something similar before: Sol with Sol, La with La, ♭ Si with ♭ Si, Do with Do, Re with Re, ♭ Mi with ♭ Mi, again ♭ Mi, Re, Do, ♭ Si, La, Sol. Let us try to play it *Play* now let us look at the second verse, as we have here, let us try to read it with the metronome Tati Tati Sol Sol La La Si Do Si La sol La La Re Mi Re Do Re Mi Re Sol Sol La La Si Do Si La Sol La La Re Mi Re Do Re Mi Re , why did I repeat it, I did because I have the repeat sign. I will try to play it with the metronome on tempo 60 *Play* why did I play it twice? I did because I have the repeat sign. Now let us continue to the next Sol Sol La La Si Do Si La Sol, same phrase before, notice how I played La with the first finger because I want to play in half position, instead of playing *Play* I am flipping the pick a lot, instead I save this to play it with speed *Play*, it will come naturally. Now look at the second part Sol Sol La La Si Do Si La Sol, Si Si Sol Do Do La Si Si Sol, which is Teta Ti Teta Ti Teta Ti, then Ta Fa tifi Ta Fa tifi Ta Fa tifi Ta Fa Tifi Ta Rest, now look here, we have Si Si Sol but I changed it to Si bass instead of Si Treble in the first one, the next note in the next bar I have Do, then in the next bar I have ♭ Si. Let us look at how this part is *Play* Sol La Si Do Si La Sol, here Si Si Sol Do Do La Si Si Sol, then *Play* like this. Let us look at the second part and try to play it, I will also add ornamentation *Play* it is okay to learn it separately like this *Play* here we can play down down up *play* then down down up *Play* down down up *play* then the picks are back to normal *Play* Let us try to play the second verse which is now like this *Play* this concludes the second verse, and as you know after the second verse we go back to the chorus, so In the last 3 bars of the second vers *Play* rest *Play* now to chorus *Play* this concludes the first verse, chorus and second verse. We will practice them very well to continue to the third and fourth verse in the next lesson.
